Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures by holding animals and providing necessary tools. Prepare animals for surgery, including administering medications and monitoring vital signs. Perform laboratory tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams. Maintain accurate medical records and update patient information as needed. Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment to ensure a safe environment. Provide care for hospitalized animals, including feeding, grooming, and monitoring their condition. Educate pet owners on proper animal care, nutrition, and preventive health measures. Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing inventory.
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in veterinary technology or assistant is a plus. Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or in a related field is an asset. Strong interest in animal care and welfare. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. Excellent communication skills to interact with both team members and pet owners. Familiarity with laboratory procedures is highly desirable. Ability to lift and handle animals of various sizes safely. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays if needed.
